The Stellar Group has finished construction on a 50,000-sq.-ft. renovation and expansion for Smithfield Packing Co. The remodeling and upgrade of Smithfield's plant was due to increasing production and keeping inline with the highest sanitation standards. The new expansion increases Smithfield's automation capabilities through additional packaging and boxing lines for spiral and sliced hams, hot dogs, bologna and sausages. Stellar provided complete design/build services, which included architecture, engineering, mechanical contracting, construction, low temperature insulation and refrigeration. The expanded facility contains a new upgraded ammonia refrigerated system, which supports expanded and renovated freezers and cooler spaces through the addition o fhighly reliable and efficient compressors and condensors. Building materials included a conventional structural steel frams, insulated metal wall panels an a single-ply membrane roofing system.

The Haskell Company was selected by The Perrier Group to direct design and construction of its new $100 million Mecosta Ice Mountain spring water bottling plant in Stanwood, Michigan. The plant will be among the first manufacturing facilities in the U.S. to apply for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the USGBC. The LEED program evaluates the environmental performance of an entire building, site and operations and functions to provide criteria for third-party certification for properties achieving energy and environmental standards.
