Dairy processors have gained the support of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste in the industry’s efforts to deregulate the federal milk marketing program. The Council has thrown its support behind the Dairy Pricing Deregulation Act, legislation sponsored in the House by Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL).

In a letter to lawmakers, Council President Thomas Schatz said ending the federal government’s role in setting milk prices “would reduce needless regulations, limit government revenues and encourage free markets.” Walsh introduced the Dairy Pricing Deregulation Act in November with a goal of phasing out the federal milk marketing order pricing system over five years.
