Plant Openings and Expansions: July 2012

Bel Brands USA selected Faithful+Gould to provide owner’s representative services for a new 170,000-sq.-ft. cheese manufacturing facility in Brookings, SD. The processor will invest approximately $100 million to build a manufacturing plant to produce Bel Brand’s Mini Babybel cheese.
 
Cargill is expanding its bakery capabilities with a new Integrated Bakery Resources (IBR) facility, scheduled to open in August 2012 in Tualatin, OR. Cargill is leasing the Tualatin building, which also will include office space for IBR’s administrative functions. IBR is managed by Horizon Milling, a Cargill business, and produces fresh and frozen goods such as flavors, toppings and nut and seed enrobing for bread. 
 
Canidae Natural Pet Food Company has a new manufacturing facility named Ethos Pet Nutrition in Brownwood, TX. In 2011, the company purchased an existing extrusion plant and spent the last year rebuilding the facility. 
 
Stellar has completed phase two of United States Cold Storage’s Turlock, CA refrigerated warehouse expansion. The project added 98,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space to the facility, bringing the total square footage to 300,000.  
 
Dot Foods is building a 148,000-sq.-ft. addition to its existing 465,000-sq.-ft. Mt. Sterling, IL warehouse. The facility includes a -10°F freezer, two 35°F shipping and loading docks and a 35°F connecting corridor. Completion is scheduled for August 2012.
