Plant Openings & Expansions: February 2013

Cargill Meat Solutions is expanding its Marshall, MO case-ready meat facility with a new $15 million value-added foods production line. Last September, the facility added a new production line for its value-added products, including ready-to-cook beef, pork and chicken items.

Chobani celebrated the grand opening of its $450 million Twin Falls, ID Greek yogurt plant. More than 300 people have been employed at the new facility as production and distribution have already begun on new product innovations set to launch nationally this year.

Anchor Packaging will build a facility in Rockcastle County, KY to provide specialized packaging for the food service industry. The $7.6 million facility will create 150 new full-time jobs and add 165,000 sq. ft. of capacity to the company’s 1.3 million sq. ft. nationwide.

Blue Bell Ice Cream is expanding its Brenham, TX plant by 25 percent. The $14 million expansion of cold storage and production capacity will add approximately 100,000 sq. ft. to the existing plant.

Millard Refrigerated Services will build and operate a new cold storage distribution facility in Charleston County, SC. The $450 million facility expects to begin operations by 2014.

Seaonus Cold Storage, owner of a major off-port facility in Jacksonville, FL, chose A M King Construction to complete design-build services to renovate and improve its rail dock at the location. Construction of the 3,100-sq.-ft. dock is expected to be complete before March.

IPPE 2015

The 2015 International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE) was held in Atlanta at the Georgia World Congress Center, Jan. 27-29. More than 30,000 poultry, meat and feed industry representatives attended the event to interact with the 1,288 exhibitors on the show floor that covered more than 490,000 net square feet.
