Farmers Rice Milling will expand its rice mill in eastern Calcasieu Parish in Louisiana. The $13.4 million, 55,000-sq.-ft. expansion and modernization of the plant’s packaging and distribution facility will increase processing speed and volume. 
 
American Licorice Company is investing $10 million to expand its operations in La Porte, IN. The 285,000-sq.-ft. project includes a new licorice production line and the addition of a railroad spur for incoming ingredients. The expansion is expected to be operational by 2015.
 
Newly Weds Foods is investing $57 million in a new regional production facility in Boone County, KY.  The company purchased an existing 326,000-sq.-ft. facility in Erlanger, KY, which will include production lines with sheeted breaders, Japanese-style bread crumbs and American-style bread crumbs as well as blending capabilities for food coating systems. Production is expected to begin in November.
 
Franklin Foods is opening a dairy plant in Casa Grande, AZ at the site of the old Daily Juice operation on Gila Bend Highway. The 90,000-sq.-ft. facility will produce cultured cream cheese and cream cheese-based products, including Greek cream cheese. The $7.7 million project is expected to create 59 jobs.
 
Calpis America Inc. chose Peachtree City, GA for its US headquarters and manufacturing operations to produce direct-fed microbial animal feed ingredients. The Japanese company is investing $20 million.
