Testing by a public UK food safety laboratory on almost 900 samples found 38 percent mislabeled or otherwise faulty.

Examples of problematic samples ranged from mislabeled supplements, to tea containing no tea, vodka containing isopropanol, cheese containing 50 percent non-cheese ingredients and meats labeled with the incorrect species. Other products were being sold after their best before date. The tests were conducted by the West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service in the six months leading up to September 30, 2013.
