Franklin Farms East is an East Coast producer of dry milk and non-dairy food products used in the production of commercial baked goods, ice creams and confectionery products. The company was founded in 1983 as a distributor of dry milk products, which it purchased in bulk from dairy cooperatives and other wholesalers. Franklin Farms hired contract manufacturers to blend and repackage the final mixes, which it sold to customers ranging from small operations to high-volume commercial bakeries, ice cream producers and confectionery firms.
In 1997, the company decided to build its own processing and repackaging facility in Frostburg, MD. With its own in-house blending capabilities, Franklin Farms East could expand its product line beyond dairy products like buttermilk and whey to include formulations based on corn and wheat flour.
