Common sense food labeling call

"Plain Talk" labels will help save lives, according to health advocacy groups calling for legislation requiring food manufacturers to label ingredients using simple, common sense wording that consumers can understand. The consumer groups include the Food Allergy Initiative (FAI), Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network and the Center for Science in the Public Interest. According to FAI, current labels use arcane words like "whey" and "sodium caseinate" to indicate the presence of milk in a product, and "semolina" to indicate wheat. Those who are allergic to milk, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, eggs, soy, or wheat should be able to find those very words on food labels, say the health advocates, and not have to hunt for one of a great number of technical terms
