Plant Openings & Expansions



Minneapolis-based Malt-O-Meal Company opened a new production facility in Asheboro, NC. The 350,000 sq.-ft. facility is expected to add 133 new jobs in the community. A $140 million investment, it supports a long-term growth strategy to strengthen the cereal maker’s position in the market. The new plant houses cereal production equipment and will produce two RTE cereals.

Mars Petcare opened the doors to what is not only Arkansas’ first sustainable manufacturing facility, but the first sustainable pet food manufacturing facility in the world. The $80 million, 305,000-sq.-ft. plant will produce Mars’ line of CESAR Canine Cuisine for small dogs and received LEED-Gold certification.

Iams is adding a 97,000-sq.-ft. warehouse to its facility in Leipsic, OH. The addition is expected to create five new jobs while retaining 25 existing jobs. It is expected to be completed in December.

Custom Poultry Processing is investing almost $5 million to renovate an old factory building in West Union, IA, for use as a poultry processing and packaging facility. The company expects to create 126 new jobs and process 14 million birds per year.

Tipton Mills will locate a production and research and development facility in Columbus, Indiana. The 40,000-sq.-ft. facility is expected to add more than 40 new jobs. The Buffalo, NY processor expects to invest $1.2 million to purchase equipment and renovate the former Big Train Inc. building.
