What About Those Unpardoned Turkeys?

The First Family's Thanksgiving celebration.

November 20, 2012

Every Thanksgiving, the President is presented with a turkey to pardon. But what about the unlucky majority of holiday fowl? They come to the White House courtesy of Sealed Air’s Cryovac brand bags, and have been doing so since 1978. The package is designed to prevent freezer burn and increase freshness, as well as spread some holiday cheer—the vacuum bags containing the First Family’s dinner feature holiday-themed printed designs with messages like “Happy Holidays, Mr. President.”
