New food defense planning tool for FSMA

FDA is developing a new software tool to help dairy foods manufacturers create food defense plans as mandated in the Food Safety and Modernization Act. Prototype software was recently released to the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and others, who gave the tool high marks in focus sessions. The software was designed with lessons from vulnerability assessments conducted over the past decade in mind, and IDFA members were instrumental in identifying vulnerabilities and developing mitigation strategies. An updated prototype, which will incorporate suggestions made in testing sessions, is slated for release later this year. For more information, visit IDFA.org.
