FDA requests comments on food allergens

Information to be part of food allergy risk assessment

FDA has requested comments in preparation of a risk assessment for establishing thresholds and action levels for major food allergens. As a result of the assessment, FDA will determine appropriate corrective action more effectively; better evaluate petitions and notifications for exemptions from allergen labeling; respond more appropriately to situations where undeclared allergens are found in foods; and consider how thresholds could be used to improve consumer choices in the marketplace. Comments are due by Feb. 7, 2013. Read the notice here.
