To Russia with...Business?

Thinking of trading or manufacturing in Russia? Here are a few tips from American River International, an import/export trading & consulting firm, for those contemplating the "Russian Experience":
  • Form alliances with Russian partners or experienced European companies with developed resources and infrastructure.
  • Be aware that many Russian companies trade into Russia, but have offshore funds to make payments outside of the Russian banking network.
  • Do not be frugal on packaging- or cargo-loss control procedures. Due to increased crime, make sure documentation, marking and labeling is 100 percent accurate.
  • Don't go it alone. Service providers such as freight forwarders, counsel and insurance companies can help develop and manage company interests in this market, reducing risks and maximizing profits.
