3-A Sanitary Standards, Inc. launched a new entity that combines all facets of the 55-year-old 3-A Sanitary Standards Program into one organization composed of five founding members, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the 3-A Steering Committee. The founding members include the International Association of Food Industry Suppliers (IAFIS), the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), the 3-A Sanitary Standards Symbol Administrative Council and the American Dairy Products Institute. Board members include Charles W. Bray (IAFIS); Dean B. Girton, Girton Manufacturing Co. Inc. (IAFIS); David W. Tharp (IAFP); Ronald Schmidt, University of Florida, (IAFP); Allen Sayler, (IDFA); Gregory A. Marconnet, Kraft Foods (IDFA); Larry Hanson, Sani-Matic, Inc.; David Fry (3-A Sanitary Standards Symbol Administrative Council); Warren Clark, Jr., Executive Cnsultant, Lee Blakely, Cheese and Protein International (ADPI); Robert F. Hennes (FDA); Duane Sporner (USDA); and Tracy Schonrock (3-A Steering Committee). Charles W. Bray has been elected as chair; David W. Tharp as vice chair; Warren Clarke, Jr. as secretary; and Gregory A. Marconnet as treasurer.

Tampa, Florida-based Clextral Inc., manufacturer of twin screw extruders, acquired Afrem International and Lymac. Afrem International is a pasta and couscous processing equipment manufacturer, while Lymac makes vertical cartoners for packaging that allow for filling and sealing a variety of carton styles including parallel piped and conical formats.
