House Republicans released a new version of the proposed five-year farm bill on Wednesday that cleaves food stamp funding from crop insurance provisions. The proposal would cut $80 billion per year in food stamp funding, an amount which already reprented a three percent cut to current funding levels. Republicans note that food stamp expenditures have doubled in the past five years.
