FSIS offers food safety tips for areas affected by severe thunderstorms
As the Northeast, Central Appalachians and Ohio Valley braces for severe thunderstorms through Tuesday evening, USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued food safety tips and recommendations in the event of power outages.
The National Weather Service announced a severe thunderstorm watch for much of the northeast quadrant of the US. There are possible storms farther west later this afternoon and through the evening in the Plains and Missouri Valley. The threats of severe thunderstorms include damaging winds, hail, and possible isolated tornadoes. This type of weather forecast presents the possibility of power outages that could compromise the safety of stored food.
