A recall of ground turmeric has been expanded to include several more brand names of the spice. New Jersey-based Gel Spice, Inc. first issued a recall for the powder in July, but has since expanded the recall because of elevated lead levels. Products were distributed to various retailers throughout the U.S.
According to FDA, routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ food inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by the New York State Food Laboratory revealed the elevated level of lead.
