FDA, CDC investigating cyclosporiasis outbreak

Outbreak believed to be linked to McDonald's salads

July 30, 2018

The FDA, CDC and state and local officials are investigating a multi-state outbreak of cyclosporiasis believed to be caused by salads from McDonald's.

The CDC reports that 286 people in 15 states have become ill, with 11 hospitalizations. There have been no deaths reported to date.

McDonald's has stopped selling salads at affected restaurants in Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and West Virginia. Salad sales will be halted until McDonald's can switch to another salad supplier.
