FMI says labeling of menu items should not include grocery stores

Organization urging "common sense" in implementation

January 9, 2013

The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) is urging “common sense” in implementing the Nutrition Labeling of Standard Menu Items at Chain Restaurants provision of the Affordable Care Act. FMI wants to make sure mainstream grocery stores are excluded from the provision requiring restaurants to disclose nutrition information. Reps. John Carter (R-TX) and Henry Cuellar (D-TX) and Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) have introduced legislation that would return the scope of the law to what they say was originally intended by Congress, which never mentioned grocery stores.
