Unauthorized GM wheat discovery leads to EU scrutiny of US imports

The European Union has urged its member nations to test wheat shipments from the US after unauthorized genetically modified wheat was found on a farm in Oregon. Japan already suspended US wheat imports following the discovery. The EU has a zero tolerance policy towards genetically modified crops, so food authorities said GM wheat should not be sold if discovered. The US exports about 1.1 million tons of wheat to the EU annually, mostly to Spain.
