FDA releases International Food Safety Capacity-Building plan

FDA says it will announce an extension of the comment periods for proposed FSMA rules on mitigation strategies for intentional adulteration and the designation of high-risk foods for tracing. The agency says it has received extensive input and says it is "committed to providing adequate time to comment on proposed rules while recognizing the need to meet court-ordered deadlines for final rules."

The comment period for the intentional adulteration and the accompanying draft qualitative risk assessment will be extended 90 days to June 30, 2014, while the comment period for the designation of high-risk foods for tracing will be extended 45 days to May 22, 2014.
