Proper Application of Food Grade Lubricants
The various requirements related to the proper use of food grade lubricants are often misunderstood. With developing industry requirements such as FSMA, understanding these requirements and having a lubrication program in place that is consistent with HACCP principles is important. Besides the lubricant’s performance in protecting valuable process machinery, considerations have to also include proper storage, handling, application, monitoring, and lubrication personnel training. Hydraulic systems, gear boxes, greased bearings, and compressors are common food and beverage machinery applications requiring the use of food grade lubricants. Synthetic lubricants can provide increased performance. Extreme high or low operating temperatures, extended re-lubrication or change intervals, OEM requirements, and desire for increased energy efficiency are all factors driving increased use of synthetic lubricants.
Attendees will learn:
- Industry requirements for food grade lubricants.
- Differences between conventional and food grade lubricants
- Considerations for choosing a mineral or synthetic food grade lubricant.
- Best practices for food grade lubricant storage and handling.
