Plant Openings and Expansions: January 2014

Sweet Street Desserts Inc., based in Reading, PA, will establish a new manufacturing facility in Greenville, SC. The processor is purchasing the 120,000-sq.-ft. former Sara Lee building.

Ozark Mountain Poultry is opening a plant in Batesville, AR. The facility was formerly owned by Pilgrim’s Pride.

Dallas-based Specialty Bakery LLC plans to build a 227,000-sq.-ft. production and distribution facility near the Indianapolis International Airport.

Natural Blend Vegetable Dehydration LLC will open a manufacturing facility in Farmville, NC. The facility is being developed by Ham Produce Company, Inc. to create dehydrated vegetables for use as an ingredient in various food products.

Empire Specialty Cheese Company LLC will invest $6.37 million by purchasing the former AFA meat processing plant in Ashville, NY.

Shearer’s Foods will invest $4.75 million to expand its Bristol, VA snack food production plant with a tortilla chip line.

Bob’s Red Mill, provider of whole grain and gluten-free foods, is opening a 125,000-sq.-ft. distribution center in Clackamas County, OR.

 Custom Food Products LLC is expanding its oper-ations in Owingsville, KY. The project is expected to cost $44 million. The company manufactures processed beef, pork, chicken, turkey, sauces and tacos for packaged food manufacturers and foodservice chains.
