Confused over the battle between butter and margarine? Well, take heart, so to speak. A new study shows that using margarine instead of butter may reduce cholesterol as much as medication. Not surprising since margarine contains no cholesterol and butter contains 218 mg/100 g.

The on-going study reports an average drop in LDL cholesterol of 10 percent and a total cholesterol reduction of 12 points in five weeks. The study is being conducted at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
