Sierra Nevada, FE’s 2010 Sustainable Plant of the Year, is locating a new brewery in Mills River, NC. Construction is expected to take between 18 and 24 months. When finished, the plant will occupy about 200,000 sq. ft. and have an onsite pub and restaurant.

Mom’s Meals opened a new fresh-food production plant in Youngstown, OH. The USDA-inspected, 20,000-sq.-ft. facility will process and package meals delivered to senior citizens.

Maple Leaf Foods chose Puslinch Township, Ontario for its new distribution center that will operate as the distribution hub for the company’s prepared meats in central and eastern Canada. The 282,000-sq.-ft. DC will combine ambient, refrigerated and frozen products into one facility. The center will be built and owned by a third-party investor and leased by Maple Leaf Foods. 

Starbucks Coffee Company will invest $172 million in a manufacturing plant in Augusta, GA. Projected to open in January 2014, the plant will produce soluble products such as VIA Ready Brew, ingredients for Frappuccino and other RTD beverages.

Wild Turkey brand-owner Gruppo Campari will break ground on a new $44 million, 125,000-sq.-ft. packaging facility at the company’s Lawrenceburg, KY site. The facility is expected to open in the fall of 2013 and will allow Wild Turkey to have full on-site control of its production from distilling to aging to bottling. The plant will expand the company’s packaging from about one million to four million cases per year.
