Plant Openings and Expansions: June 2012

Plant Construction Survey

Tyson Foods, Inc. began work on a multi-million dollar improvement and expansion project at its poultry complex in Sedalia, MO. Improvements will include processes to benefit animal handling, food safety, environmental quality, workplace safety and production lines. The project includes the addition of up to five deboning lines, upgrades to the plant’s wastewater treatment operations and improvements in poultry slaughter.

Ocean Spray Cranberries broke ground on a $110 million, 315,000-sq.-ft. juice bottling plant in Upper Macungie Township, PA (near Allentown). The facility will bottle Ocean Spray juices as well as Nestlé’s Juicy Juice products, producing over 32 million cases of beverages each year.

Flower Foods plans to invest $31 million to expand its Oxford, PA bakery by adding 90,000 sq. ft. Flower Foods acquired the plant after its purchase of Tasty Baking. The expansion will include a new bread production line.

Horizon Milling plans to replace two existing hard wheat milling units at its Saginaw, TX flour milling facility with two state-of-the-art units. A new processing building will be constructed to house the new milling equipment.

Blue Diamond Growers launched Phase 1 of its new manufacturing plant in Turlock, CA. The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion in May 2013 and will provide about 200,000 sq. ft. of building space for manufacturing and delivering new almond products worldwide.
