The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is likely to oppose a plan to elevate the EPA to cabinet level status. The business group says Congress should consider any such plan carefully before acting. “Much of EPA’s science has been inconsistent and sometimes even developed behind closed doors without public input,” said Bill Kovacs, Chamber vice president of environmental policy. “Simple elevation of the agency without specific reforms, especially in the area of sound science and transparency, would be a big government disaster.” Kovacs, in testimony before a house subcommittee, said the chamber is in favor of a cooperative, inter-government agency approach to developing guidelines and a methodology for all scientific study.
