More than 6 million pounds of beef recalled

Meat may be contaminated with Salmonella Newport

By Casey Laughman
JBS
October 4, 2018

JBS has announced the recall of more than 6.5 million pounds of raw beef products that may be contaminated with Salmonella Newport.

The products subject to recall are raw, non-intact beef items, including ground beef. They were packaged on various dates from July 26, 2018 to Sept. 7, 2018. They bear establishment number "EST. 267" inside the USDA mark of inspection, and were shipped to retail locations and institutions nationwide.

The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service was able to traceback the cause of multiple Salmonella Newport cases to JBS raw ground beef. So far, 57 cases in 16 states have been confirmed.

Products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Consumers with questions about the recall can call the JBS USA Consumer Hotline at 800-727-2333.
