The International Association of Food Industry Suppliers has released its 2000 edition of the Capital Equipment & Supplies Study, an annual research study intended to provide insights into processor attitudes, practices and purchasing expectations.   • Merger and acquisition activity continues to slow. The majority of processors reveal no merger activity in 2000. c Three out of four processors report an increase in the volume of products produced while one-half report an increase in the number of products produced.
  • Labor is the most critical issue among processors with government regulations a distant second.
  • Maintenance and consumables dominate processors' lists of expenditures. Nearly all processors report spending on in-house maintenance, parts and sanitizers in 1999.
  • Expenditures have increased, particularly for buildings, equipment and utilities.
  • A processor's current manufacturer representative is the most important source for information, according to the majority of processors.
