Hershey Foods has chosen a Kraft Foods' Nabisco executive to head the world's largest candy maker, the third Nabisco executive to be chosen to lead a major consumer-products company this year. Richard H. Lenny was named Hershey's chief executive after spending just three months as head of Kraft's Nabisco biscuit and snack business. He had been with Nabisco when it was acquired last year by Kraft Foods parent Philip Morris. In January, Nabisco Foods president Douglas R. Conant was named CEO at Campbell Soup; and Nabisco CEO James M. Kilts assumed the top job at Gillette.

President of Sargento's Food Service Division, Lawrence J. Gentine, announced three key sales & marketing executives to help reorganize that division's field sales execution structure for sharper consumer focus in 2001. Tim Ross, formerly Eastern division manager, has been promoted to director of sales for the Southeast and Western region sales teams. Bill Buranich, formerly senior national account manager, has been promoted to director of sales for the sales teams in Texas, the Plains and the Upper Midwest region. Dave Engel, formerly marketing manager, has been promoted to director of marketing, responsible for all divisional and customer marketing communications, customer programs and the Food Service Division web site content.

Dr. Arthur A. Teixeira is the recipient of the 2001 IAFIS Foundation-FEPI Award, recognizing his as a "Distinguished Food Engineer." The award is sponsored by the Foundation of the International Association of Food Industry Suppliers and the Food and Process Engineering Institute, a unit of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. The award recognizes outstanding accomplishments of those who have made engineering contributions in research, development or design of food processes significant to the food industry; or in outstanding leadership, management or education to advance the food engineering profession in a career that has spanned more than 10 years. Dr. Teixeira's work in computer simulation, optimization, and control of thermal food processing operations has become a cornerstone of modern process design and control systems in today's food canning industry. These systems have resulted in increased safety assurance of sterilized canned foods to consumers with optimum quality at low cost, and with improved manufacturing efficiency.

Meg Merritt has been appointed Manager, Sales and Marketing Support Programs for awp industries, inc., a leading manufacturer of material handling storage products. The company also manufactures towing accessories and is a large regional metal-stamping and roll-forming supplier. In her new position, Merritt will manage awp's marketing support programs, including distribution, development and volume generation. Merritt is also responsible for sales management and analysis, customer service for all awp product lines, and is the corporate sales contact for eight awp manufacturer's representatives.

Edward H. Eisele III, a former Whirlpool executive, was named to Shuttleworth's board of directors. Eisele holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Purdue University.
