In January 2011, the Food Safety Modernization Act came into being, and six core teams were formed to focus on six key sections: preventive standards, inspection and compliance, imports, federal/state integration, fees and reports, and studies. These teams are currently developing regulations, guidance and protocols for new administrative tools, according to Roberta F. Wagner, FDA director for regulatory affairs, FDA CFSAN.
The work, according to Wagner, is designated Phase 1. Phase 2 is concerned with determining strategies to develop and implement the standards. Phase 3 includes monitoring and evaluating the implementation results.
