Industry group FoodDrinkEurope released a report on the EU food and beverage industry which found that the industry, though robust and non-cyclical, is not competitive compared to many emerging and mature markets. The report notes contributing factors such as the lack of an EU Industrial Policy for the food sector, the absence of a true single market for food in the EU and the need for a more functional food supply chain. Recommendations include the establishment of an EU Industrial Policy for food, securing better market access for EU food and beverage companies in developing markets and the completion of a single market.
