Jacksonville, Fla.-based The Haskell Co. has been selected as design-builder of a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Effingham, Ill. for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. The 187,000-sq.-ft. facility is a result of Haskell's "Total Facility Solutions" approach, including supply chain analysis, which helped determine the best location for the new project; real estate services, such as site incentive negotiation; architectural/engineering services for facility design; process desigh; construction; millwright; training; and facility commissioning. 47,000 square feet of the facility will be dedicated to the blending and packagin of prepared doughnut mixes. In addition, about 116,000 square feet of the building will be utilized for a new distribution center. The project is scheduled for completion in May 2002.

The Stellar Group has started construction on a new 200,000-sq.-ft. low-temperature distribution facility for Burris Refrigerated Logistics in Orlando, Fla. The new facility in Orlando is needed to expand the distribution of fresh and frozen food products to BJ's Wholesale Club throughout the Southeastern United States. Stellar is providing design/build services, which include master planning, site planning, programming/ space planning, architecture, engineering, mechanical contracting and refrigeration. Burris' low-temperature distribution facility will include freezers that will maintain temperatures between -10 degrees F to -20 degrees F and a cooler that will maintain temperatures between 20 degrees F to 40 degrees F. The facility will contain energy efficient compressors, condensors and evaporators. It will also contain a material handling area, office & welfare areas and machine & mechanical rooms.
