Plant Openings & Expansions

Coca-Cola is spending more than $60 million to build a plant to recycle and reuse nearly two billion 20-oz. bottles a year. The Spartanburg, SC, plant is expected to open next year and be fully operational in 2009.

Cargill will build a second canola processing plant adjacent to its existing operation in Clavet, Saskatchewan. The investment will double oilseed processing capacity to 1.5 million tons annually. Groundbreaking will take place soon, and production is expected to start by November 2008.

Ocean Spray is expanding its Craisins production network and will be installing a new line at its plant in Markham, WA. The $17.8 million line will generate 25 to 30 new jobs and produce some 15 million pounds of sweetened dried cranberries annually.

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream will expand its Edy’s Fort Wayne, IN, plant by 30,000 sq. ft. at a cost of about $29.5 million. The facility expansion is expected to be completed in July 2008, and will increase the capacity of the Nestlé Drumstick line.

Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Inc., is building a new 120-acre production and sales distribution center in Baton Rouge, LA. Master planning layouts include a 50,000-sq.-ft. corporate office space, 400,000-sq.-ft. production and sales distribution center, 50,000-sq.-ft. vending service and point-of-sales support service building, and a 25,000-sq.-ft. fleet repair garage.
