Kraft Pizza Company, maker of DiGiorno frozen pizza, broke ground for the expansion of its 401 West North West Avenue manufacturing plant in Little Chute, WI. The expansion will add 100,000 sq.ft. of manufacturing space. A new pizza crust bakery line and assembly line will be installed, creating a significant increase in production capacity. Construction is expected to be completed by year’s end, and equipment installation and start-up of the new lines are planned for April of 2009. Employment is expected to increase by approximately 300.

Stellar Inc. completed construction of a 130,000-sq.-ft. meat processing plant in Seminole, OK for the Mexican company, Sigma Alimentos. The processor is Mexico’s largest refrigerated foods company, and the new facility will produce Mexican-style hams, cold cuts and hot dogs. The plant features separate raw and RTE areas as well as separate entrances and welfare areas.

Ottens Flavors, an international flavor supplier, purchased a new manufacturing facility in Philadelphia. The 60,000-sq.-ft., USDA-approved facility will enable the company to expand production of its SavoryPlus meat and savory flavors as well as increase encapsulation production capabilities by 50%.

Hormel Foods is constructing a new $89 million production facility in Dubuque, IA, which will be operated by Progressive Packaging, LLC., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hormel. The plant is expected to be operational by November 2009.
