Electron beam process
E-BEAM says its electron-beam processing of flour, cereal, rice and mixed grain products increases product shelf life and reduces contamination caused by microorganisms without chemical fumigants. In a process similar to the sterilization of medical devices, the process irradiates flour and grain with a low-power, electron-beam system that treats bulk or packaged products by rapidly penetrating the packaging without disturbing the product. The company says the bio-reduction process does not add additional ingredients, change formulation requirements or leave a chemical residue or aftertaste.
