Creating an easy-to-open, but structurally sound, peel can be a tightrope walk. Make it too easy, and it might not offer enough protection for food and beverage products; make it too hard to open, and you risk a bad consumer experience.

This is why Tri-Seal, a division of Tekni-Plex, Inc. has created EdgePull, a line of new tamper-evident, induction seal liners that is available globally. The induction seals are designed to require less force to remove and peel cleanly, without leaving behind adhesive residue that can contaminate the contents after opening a container.

As an added convenience to consumers, the liners have pull tabs made with an enhanced strength to resist becoming detached or delaminated when a consumer pulls on them.

“Customers will benefit from the excellent product performance characteristics of EdgePull liners. The structural enhancements will make it easier for consumers to access a wide variety of beverage and food products,” says David Andrulonis, vice president and general manager of Tekni-Plex.

The liners are typically used with closures ranging from 28 to 63mm wide and are ideal for a range of narrow- and wide-mouthed containers. They are available in two formats: EdgePull PPE, which has been engineered for use with polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) containers typically used for dairy, nutraceuticals and other liquids, and EdgePull Universal for operations that use multiple bottle types (PE, PP, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene terephthalate) and desire one liner material that can be used across all product applications to better manage inventory and cost.

Both induction seal materials feature a multilayer structure, including a proprietary heat-seal formulation. To further help consumers, arrows are printed on the induction seal pull tab to indicate the correct direction to pull for easy removal.
