Phase 1 of Shearer’s Foods expansion its Massillon, OH site has created 79 new jobs. Phase 2 is now in progress and is expected to create 90 additional jobs in January 2011. The facility is reportedly the first food manufacturing plant in the world to receive LEED Platinum certification. The new plant will use over 30 percent less energy per pound than Shearer’s current manufacturing lines.


Joy Cone Company will expand its Hermitage, PA plant by 190,000 sq. ft. to increase capacity of its ice cream cone products. The $21 million project is expected to create 50 new jobs.


Agro Farms, maker of Chobani Greek yogurt, is expanding its South Edmeston, NY manufacturing site. The project includes increasing the plant’s storage, wastewater treatment facility and production facilities.


Leprino Foods plans to build a new cheese factory in Greely, CO valued at $270 million. The new facility occupies the former Western Sugar Company site and is expected to be fully operational by 2012.


JBS USA plans to expand its beef plant near Plainwell, MI with a $43 million freezer expansion and a $20 million expansion of the existing production facilities.


Wellington Foods, Inc. has moved its production operation to a new headquarters in Corona, CA. With this move, the company nearly doubled its manufacturing capacity. The new facility includes 116,000 sq. ft. for both offices and manufacturing.
