Augmented with a patented mechanical drive mechanism, the MECO-DR seal fixtures sacrificial polymer stators against stainless-steel rotors, and uses a water quench and pneumatic adjustment. The drive mechanism enables the double-seal faces to operate unaffected by axial motion of the shaft. Quench water flows through the seal at zero pressure, and cannot dilute product in the pump. Using external pneumatic cylinders, the seal self-adjusts constantly for a total of 1-in. allowable axial wear. This self-adjusting capability allows the seal to survive both vacuum conditions and high-pressure surges. Woodex Bearing Co., Inc., Bay Point Rd., Box 37A, Georgetown, ME 04548. Tel.
