Grocery Manufacturers Assocation to petition for national GMO labeling standards
The petition would halt state-by-state efforts to set standards.

The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) will petition US food safety regulators and bring pressure on Congress to enact labeling changes for genetically modified foods, according to a Reuters interview of Louis Finkel, executive vice president of government affairs for GMA. The campaign is an effort to avoid setting labeling requirements for GMO on a state-by-state basis, while allowing non-GMO products to be marketed with "natural" claims. Finkel says GMA is working with a broad coalition of stakeholders, including biotech crop developers, to compile the proposals. He also says the proposed legislation should be introduced soon.
