The produce company reported sales of over $1 billion for the second quarter, compared to $557 million last year.

Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. reported quarterly net sales of over $1 billion compared to $557 million in the same period of 2012. The Coral Gables, Fl-based fresh foods company says much of that gain can be attributed to increased sales of bananas, fresh-cut products and tomatos.
Net sales of bananas were up eight percent compared to 2012, while net fresh-cut sales jumped seven percent. Tomato net sales were up nine percent. Pineapple and melon net sales dropped six and four percent, respectively.
