Low carb claims doubled in Europe over last five years
The most popular low carb offerings were in traditionally high carb products like pasta.

According to a report from market research from Mintel, low carb labeling claims have doubled in Europe over the past five years. Traditionally high carb products like pasta, bread and baked goods accounted for many new low carb options, contributing to the 95 percent spike in claims between 2008 and 2013. France accounts for 17 percent of new low carb claims, while Spain and Germany each make up 15 percent.
Researchers say the popularity of a high protein diet has also contributed to the low carb claim resurgence. New product launches with high protein claims have tripled over the past five years in Europe.
