International Powder Bulk & Solids Event

Powder and bulk show preview: Program to focus on safety, solutions and compliance

By Shane O'Halloran
April 8, 2014

The International Powder & Bulk Solids Conference and Powder Show Exhibition, scheduled for May 6-8, 2014 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL, is the industry’s only focused educational event for processing technologies in powder and bulk and heavy bulk material handling.

The conference will feature 40 presentations with faculty from Australia, Spain, Germany, Israel, India, Japan, England, Scotland and the United States.

The three-day event is recognized as the leading forum for education from experts in the powder and bulk field. OSHA, NFPA and industry experts will address challenges and opportunities related to production, storage and transportation of powder and bulk solids in their specific areas of expertise.

For the first time, sessions will be cut to one and a half hours to allow attendees more flexibility in designing a custom program. Core technical training will be designated either F (fundamental) or A (advanced) to help attendees determine what level is right for them.

Each day at 9:00 a.m., a new Technology Keynote Panel Discussion will present leading-edge science to attendees. Daily What’s New in Tech sessions and industry-focused case history presentations will allow them to envision solutions in action. Attendees will also hear directly from OSHA and NFPA representatives about compliance from their perspectives, including updates and new measures.

Each day, four concurrent educational sessions in three time slots will be held on topics including pneumatic conveying; weighing and feeding; dust control; mechanical handling; storage and discharge; drying; material characterization; bulk solids flow; dust explosion prevention; component design; and regulatory standards to help attendees increase process efficiency through technical know-how.

The conference’s three days encompass a range of educational topics for engineers, plant managers and other industry personnel to stay abreast of the latest developments in safety, solutions, best practices and compliance.

Another new feature of this year’s Powder Show is the online event planner, which will allow attendees to find one another and the suppliers they want to connect with using a handy mobile app. A “Find People” tool allows searches by keywords, areas of interest or company. Attendees may send messages or request a meeting at the event, as well as search exhibitor listings.

Pre-registered expo visitors are welcome to attend a pre-conference mixer hosted by the Taste of Rosemont on Monday, May 5.
