Used with diced and small fruits and vegetables, the TOMRA Iris II optical sorting system uses top and bottom sensor banks to view each object “in flight” with a combination of LED illumination in the visible and near infra-red spectral zones; charge-coupled device cameras perform targeted spectroscopy with 1mm precision. The system views and analyzes attributes such as color, shape, blemishes and foreign material. First-grade produce passes through the machine, while defective produce is redirected into a stream by intelligent air nozzle ejectors. An intuitive touch screen provides quality control and feedback.
