A new method for filtration of processing facility effluents—named dynamic filtration—was found to have significant advantages over currently used filtration methods when tested on actual processing effluent.

The research, conducted by John Pierson at the Georgia Institute of Technology, was funded by USPOULTRY and the USPOULTRY Foundation.

According to USPOULTRY, the new dynamic filtration “gives increased recovery of fine suspended solids such as fats and proteins, providing more material for rendering.” The method also allows for enhanced opportunities for reuse of water and recycling within a processing facility.
