As the landscape of supermarkets changes, the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) has published a set of current and future trends that drive consumer’s grocery shopping behavior.
According to an article by IFT Executive Editor Mary Ellen Kuhn, successful retailers will have to adapt to changes in consumer preferences, technology and lifestyle needs.
Kuhn writes supermarkets are trending towards fresh prepared foods, smaller grocery stores and healthy living and fresh foods, as well as catering to price-driven consumers who are frugal and open to shopping in a variety of different channels.
Other trends include offering more innovative meal solutions and adapting to mobile commerce and online shopping.
