Obama signs pro-GMO rider into law

When President Obama signed the continuing budget resolution into law, many food safety advocates and farmers were surprised to find language seen as protective of Monsanto and other large industrial agriculture companies. Section 735 of H.R. 933 authorizes the Secretary of Agriculture to allow continued planting of genetically modified crops despite ongoing legal challenges to their use. Food safety advocates say the potential health risks of genetically modified crops have not been studied sufficiently.
