US hunger for organic products growing fastSales of organic products in the US took off in 2013, rising 11.5 percent—the fastest growth rate in five years.

According to a recent survey from the Organic Trade Association, organic product sales totaled $35.1 billion in 2013, up from sales of $31.5 billion a year earlier.

Given the spike in purchases, the survey projects this demand will not end any time soon and the growth rates will keep pace for another two years.

“The U.S. organic market is experiencing strong expansion, with organic food and farming continuing to gain in popularity. Consumers are making the correlation between what we eat and our health, and that knowledge is spurring heightened consumer interest in organic products,” said Laura Batcha, executive director and CEO of the association.
