As the packaging industry increasing uses flexible packaging, Zip-Pak is developing new ways to open and close pouches. The company, in collaboration with supply chain partner and flexible packaging converter TechniPac, has introduced PresSURE-Lok, a new way to control the dispensing of liquid products.

The controlled-dispensing technology offers a unique all-in-one solution that combines a flexible pouch with a flexible, self-contained fitment, eliminating the need for a separate dispensing component. The user opens the seal by squeezing the flexible pouch, causing the liquid product to flow into the dispensing chamber. The package then automatically reseals itself for future use. This proprietary sealing mechanism allows the flexible package to lay on its side, or even upside down, without unintentional dispensing.

Another trend in the food and beverage packaging industry is the reduction of packaging weights. Because the PresSURE-Lok concept is a self-contained closure on a flexible, not rigid, package, it has a lighter weight. Therefore, it is easier for consumers to tote and promotes sustainability, balancing the environmental impact with the customer experience. Far less material is required for production and transportation compared to rigid packaging. Currently available for trial and test market production, PresSURE-Lok is suitable for dispensing energy liquid products and possibly beverages and condiments. The package is expected to serve as a viable alternative to blow-molded bottles.
