Coca-Cola Amatil CCA won the 2013 Australian Packaging Design Award for a 600ml Powerade Sports bottle, an extremely lightweight, eco-friendly hot-fill bottle featuring a 38ml-wide neck closure.

Designed by Krones AG, Germany, the NitroHotfill bottle reduces the container’s weight from 33 to 24 grams and allows the filling process to change over from a hot-fill to a warm-fill step, generating substantial savings in energy consumption.

Krones says the NitroHotfill process allows the bottle to be made without typical vacuum panels. The bottle features a flatter, design-optimized base that significantly improves its visual appearance. v
